Visited Venice for the first time💔
In a year and a half since Maria Sharapova finished playing, she has done significantly more than tennis in the last few years of her career.
Apart from her engagement to longtime boyfriend Alexander Gilkes, most of Sharapova's activities during this period were business - mainly she expanded her investment portfolio. In particular, she:
• invested (how much is unknown) and became a strategy consultant for Therabody, a manufacturer of body care devices;
• Together with a partner bought a 30% from Bala, a weight training bracelet company, for $900k, and starred in a 70s-inspired advertising campaign for the brand that took pride of place on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles;
• Became an advisor to Naked Retail, a New York-based company that provides physical space for out-of-store online brands (shortly after he complimentary Forbes with her);
• recorded a 20-episode tennis master class for the educational sports platform The Abilities ($19 for a monthly subscription, $96 for an annual);
• invested in and became a consultant for Tonal, a California-based startup that makes $ 3,000 home exercise equipment.
Last fall, Sharapov became one of two athletes in the Forbes ranking of the 100 richest women in America who made their fortunes on their own (and did not receive assets by inheritance or from divorce). The publication put the five-time champion "Helmets" in 87th place and estimated her capital at $200 million (slightly higher was Serena Williams and her $225 million). And a few months later, Maria was the soloist on the cover of the Russian Forbes Lady, which made up a similar twenty of Russians (she took 10th place in it).
Also, at the end of winter, Sharapova, it seems, for the first time posted direct rather than native advertising on Instagram. Unlike her own investment projects and clothing Pangaia, in which Gilkes invested, Sharapova is not associated with the bourbon brand in any way, except for occasional posts where she is depicted next to a bottle of the brand and an appeal to share recipes for fun with a hashtag.
Sharapova celebrated her 34th birthday in April at the elite winery Harlan Property in California's Napa Valley, designed by local architectural star Howard Bucken, with the active participation of pancake cake.
But the most spectacular in Sharapova's retirement were the last two months, during which she traveled about half of Europe and which confirmed her title of queen of vacation content.
First, Sharapova explored Croatia, where, according to her, at that time (it was mid-July), after the coronavirus restrictions, tourists had not yet poured in. There is one shot in a wind-blown floral dress designed by Maria Sophia's friend Sánchez de Betac overheated social media with speculation that Sharapova is in position (although the selfie in the same series of photos clearly shows a flat stomach).
Gilkes reacted to the conversation about the bride's pregnancy with a photograph of her with a beer.
Then Maria went to the UK, where she first visited the Albert Hall, and, apparently, on the eve of the wedding, introduced her parents to Alexander's parents. They do not set the wedding date, as she said recently, because they are waiting for the removal of all travel restrictions so that all guests can get to the celebration.
Then Sharapova and Gilkes rode through Scotland on a luxurious Edwardian train (from £ 4K per person for two nights). Maria admired the views and read the fantasy novel The Northern Lights, a BBC series filmed in Wales.
The next stop of the Eurotour was the Spanish Menorca - the younger sister of Mallorca with rocky bays and rare fauna.
There Maria and Alexander visited the new exhibition space of the gallery owners Hauser & Wirth, where the fresh works of the American artist Mark Bradford, a month later, entered the list of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time.
“August as I never knew him,” wrote Sharapova and waved to Italy.
“In Puglia. Couldn't leave without looking at you, Italy. My memories of you consist mostly of hard work, sweat, stomach cubes, and homemade truffle fasting. It's time to get new ones. "
From the heel of the Apennines, Maria went first to the middle of the boot - to the iconic Amalfi coast, where she alternated trips to the beach and pasta with zucchini.
From the Sorrento Peninsula, Sharapova and Gilkes went to Venice (where, by the way, he married for the first time). Mary was in the great city for the first time - and this, as you know, is a transcendental experience.
In Sharapova's case, it was accompanied by visits to the architecture biennale and film festival (but not the Dolce & Gabbana couture show, which brought Kourtney Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Philip Kirkorov in one place).
In Venice, Maria and Alexander spent time with Jessica Chastain, who presented the miniseries Scenes from Marriage (adaptation of the famous 1973 work by Ingmar Bergman) at the film festival, and her husband, Gian Luca Passy di Preposulo.
Wearing a Dior dress, Sharapova attended the premiere of Paolo Sorrentino's The Hand of God, which she called “piercing, personal and captivating” (the film won the Grand Jury Award, and the leading actor Filippo Scotti won the Marcello Mastroianni Award, which is awarded to the best young actor or actress).
From Europe, Sharapova and Gilkes returned to New York, where, to the shock of the latter, Maria offered to go to tennis. So they ended up at the US Originate men's finals in the company of artist JR and designer Gabriela Hirst.
Hirst dressed Sharapova in a gold dress the next day at the Met Gala, the fashion event of the year.
With basketball player Russell Westbrook
Another famous tennis fashionist Garbinier Mugurusa approvingly burst into the commentary on the photo of the onion, and Sharapova called the two days in New York her most "intense communication in the last two years" the next morning.
What cult places Sharapova visited in the week that has passed since then is still unknown.
Sharapova's African vacation: gorillas, lions, soccer with children and meeting with the president
Sharapova's bohemian weekend: meeting with Safin, training on the Italian Riviera, Paris Fashion Week
